Objective

The purpose of the "Blue Overseas School" (école Bleue outre mer) was to:

  • Train young people based overseas (scientists, maritime professions and artists) by making them benefit from the tools of the French Oceanographic Fleet (ships and instruments on board);
  • Help them discover the different professions on board the oceanographic vessel, from scientific to logistical, through shared activities;
  • Make the overseas inhabitants aware of their marine territory and to make the metropolitan inhabitants discover the wealth of the overseas territories;
  • Raise awareness among those on board and inspire future generations through "ambassadors of marine sciences";
  • Raise awareness in society and inform citizens of the major challenges of sustainability sciences.
