Objective

SCRATCH is a sampling campaign on board the oceanographic vessel Marion Dufresne in the French Exclusive Economic Zones (Mayotte, Glorieuses, Tromelin and Réunion). During this mission, we carried out 35 CTD rosettes, 19 plankton nets, 12 coring and 12 dredges. The samples collected will be used by nine laboratories (LMV-UCA-OPGC, EPOC, ENTROPIE, LGSR, IPGP, BRGM, IFREMER-GM, CEREGE, LSCE) supported by seven national to international scientific programs (Coyotes, Phenomap, iMonsoon ANRs, FRB COCCACE, LEFE IndSO and LEFE / EC2CO CHEMICAL INSU projects and the EU Interreg grant « HATARI »). Analyzes carried on the collected material will allow us to meet the following goals:

  • Characterize the planktonic flora and fauna;

  • Determine the impact of the islands on the functioning and anthropization of the surrounding marine ecosystems;

  • Study the evolution of the Indian Ocean dipole during the Pleistocene

  • Improve knowledge of the regional geodynamics of the archipelagos of Comoros and Glorioso

  • Characterize sediment transfers on the slopes of coral islands

In order to meet these multiple scientific aims, our SCRATCH campaign is multidisciplinary by bringing together many scientific fields and by combining different methodologies and analyzes which are mutually enriched.
