Objective

This survey conducted in June 2013, was carried out as part of the AMBIO project, and is the first study of fish communities and their habitats, covering the entire Chesterfield and Bellona reef complex (330 km North-South, 70 km East-West, 1324 km²) in the Coral Sea Marine Park. Data were collected using the STAVIRO, a rotating video technique developed in 2007, and largely perfected and tested since (Pelletier et al. 2012, 2016).

The data collected enabled to describe and assess:

  • fish habitats and communities, their abundance and distribution;
  • fish resources.

And thus contribute to improving ecological knowledge in this large area within the Coral Sea Marine Park.
