Objective

The EVHOE project is a long term project and its main objectives are stable in time. The EVHOE survey allows to :

  1. build time series of abundance indices for the main commercial species of the Bay of Biscay and Celtic Sea to be used in stock assessments especially in estimating trends in abundance and variation in recruitment ;
  2. assess the impact of fishing on fish communities and provide data for an ecosystemic approach to fisheries management.

During those annual surveys hauls and CTDs hydrological profiles are realised in the Bay of Biscay and the Celtic Sea. Added to those main activities, additional observations are performed to acquire data on environmental features (hydrology, sediment and bathymetry) or others biological components (benthos, plancton, birds and mammals, marine litter).
