Objective

The main objective of the IBTS 2022 cruise was to assess the abundance and distribution of commercial stocks, independently of fisheries data. The first objective was to obtain a diagnosis of commercial fish stocks and to calculate age-specific abundance indices for these species. Within the framework of the ecosystem approach to fisheries, additional works were carried out to study most biological compartments, from phytoplankton to top predators. For example, the use of a continuous underway fish egg sampling system, the CUFES (Continuous Underway Fish Eggs Sampler) allows the study of the distribution of spawning grounds. Similarly, the geographical distribution of planktonic, zooplanktonic and benthic macroinvertebrate communities was also assessed. Finally, the IBTS 2022 cruise has been used to feed a number of research projects such as FORESEA.
