Objective | SELI sea campaigns are set up since 2016 to inform on the biological effects of chemical contamination to marine organisms (fish and bivalve) and provide data for MSFD D8C2 assessment (contaminant effect in the marine ecosystem). SELI also generate data sent to regional sea conventions databases (OSPAR and MEDPOL). Monitored biomarkers include 1) effects on important biological functions: reprotoxicity, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity, as well as the 2) general health status of the organisms. Contaminants measured in the organisms are trace metallic elements and organic contaminants (historical and emerging) suspected to bioaccumulate in organisms and bioamplify in trophic webs. SELI is divided into 3 sub-protocols, one protocol being executed per year and therefore each protocol being executed every 3 years:
