Objective

The overall objectives of the cruise were:

  • Validating telepresence technologies for the French oceanographic fleet (HROV video transmission, HROV data transmission, videoconferencing, etc.).
  • Applying the concept of telepresence during a coastal exploration cruise using a remotely operated underwater vehicle.
  • Managing the cruise and dive operations from an onshore laboratory.
  • Preparation and management of cruise operations by master-level students.

The scientific objectives of the cruise were:

  • Biology: investigating the genetics of Mediterranean hexacoralliarys and octocoralliarys populations. This included examining the level of vertical connectivity between different depths, the degree of connectivity between deep populations and the detection of the presence of cryptic species as a function of depth.
  • Geosciences: characterizing the active tectonic structures that accommodate the convergence of the African plate towards the Eurasian plate, which presents a major risk for the PACA Region as a result of this seismic activity. Exploration of the Marcel fault by video.
