Objectif

L'objectif général de l'expédition était de documenter la biodiversité marine d'un hotspot sous-étudié, du lagon de Madang, Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, en y intégrant une composante de formation des acteurs locaux, dans une perspective de conservation et de tourisme responsable.

Les résultats attendus relèvent de cinq objectifs complémentaires :
1. Recherche : découvrir des espèces inconnues dans les écosystèmes marins de Papouasie Nouvelle-Guinée ; constituer des collections de référence.
2. Conservation : renforcer les bases scientifiques sur la place de la PNG dans le Coral Triangle et renforcer les inventaires de référence sur cette éco-région marine.
3. Formation : proposer aux acteurs locaux (chercheurs/techniciens ; professionnels de l'écotourisme) une formation de base.
4. Communication : faire partager au plus grand nombre (grand public, formateurs) la dynamique d'une grande expédition naturaliste.
5. Gestion : alimenter les bases de données sur la biodiversité, en PNG et au plan international (GBIF, BOLD, OBIS).
