Objective | Among the recommendations of the DCSMM surveillance program, the monitoring of demersal fish and cephalopods in coastal soft tissue environments was identified as a priority. A permanent and operational monitoring must thus be put in place during the first cycle (2014-2020), it is based on a series of recurring campaigns to be deployed in the depths below 40 metres, in addition to those already existing on the Channel and Atlantic coasts (Nurse, Nourseine, Noursom). Monitoring is carried out in the coastal nursery areas of bentho-demersal fish, which are essential habitats for many marine species. The characterization of the ecological status of stands and the study of the functionality of nursery habitats are essential for the definition of ecosystem-based management measures to ensure sustainable uses. Targeted sea campaigns are used to collect data necessary to calculate Good Ecological Status (GEB) indicators through the use of standardized sampling of benthic and demersal stands (invertebrates and commercial/non-commercial fish). In the Mediterranean, there was no specific campaign to monitor nurseries on the coastal soft bottom. This is the objective of the Nourmed series of campaigns, which aims to sample the main trawlable coastal areas of fishing interest in the Gulf of Lions. |
