Objective

This is part of the general international PIRATA programme. As the 28th French cruise of this type, it is called PIRATA-FR28.

The cruise's initial objectives were to:

  • Replace 6 Pirata met-ocean buoys located in the Gulf of Guinea, including 3 ATLAS and 3 new T-FLEX systems.
  • Deploy an ADCP mooring at 0°E -0 °N.
  • Replace CO2 sensors on buoys at 6°S-10°W and 8°E-6°S.
  • Perform CTD-O2/LADCP hydrological legs (10°W, 0°E, 6°S).
  • Deploy 23 SVP B drifting buoys.
  • Deploy 5 ARVOR profiling floats with dual programming, 2 of which are Deep-Argo floats.
  • Seawater samples taken for analyses (S, O2, CO2, nutrients, pigments).
  • Heat profiles performed with XBT probes.

And, in addition to usual, recurrent PIRATA tasks:

  • Replace 10 Xpod turbulence sensors on 2 buoys (23°W and 10°W - 0°N).
  • Replace OTN acoustic receivers on all met-ocean buoys.
  • Continuous (vertical and lateral) acoustic measurements.
