Objective | REIVE is a coastal oceanological biology cruise which aims to study Ichthyoplankton (fish eggs and larvae) assemblages in the Eastern English Channel along French coasts. This cruise was performed in the framework of the SMAC (French acronym for improving knowledge about Eastern Channel sole for better management) project aiming inter alia to know more about the recruitment and distribution of sole ichthyoplankton in the Eastern English Channel) In particular, it aims to 1) locate areas of concentrations of eggs and larvae from the main species of fish seen; 2) compare levels of larval abundance with those from previous cruises (1993-1999); 3) assess the larval condition of the main species seen, using a wide range of techniques (biochemistry, histology); 4) comparing survival conditions for sole and flounder with previous cruises (1993-1999); 5) determine the origins of the sole larvae collected through microchemical analyses of their otoliths. The cruise had 2 legs: from 23/03 to 30/03, then from 05/05 to 12/05. |
