Objective The PHOENIX 2017 cruise's objective was to test an unprecedented combination of broadband acoustic equipment, video camera and zooplankton/micronekton nets, in order to characterise the composition and dynamics of dense scattering layers which are often observed by acoustics in the Bay of Biscay. A secondary objective was to assess the possibility of using video to sample the pelagic macronekton with an open trawl (ENROL) equipped with a video camera. The related project is Ifremer's biological resources and environment programme (RBE), cruise fisheries information system, from the "SIH resources" project's action on observation tools methods, at the Ifremer Ecology and models for fisheries science unit.
