Objective

The ESSMVP mission performed technical trials for the MVP (Moving Vessel Profiler) deployed with the MSFFF probe (Multi Sensor Free Fall Fish, familiarly called "big fish"). These trials complement those already performed on the last day of the cruise OSCAHR in November 2015.

The main objective was to understand the physical phenomena leading to twists in the umbilical which could create a kink and even lead to the cable's breaking (see Genavir information note ref: DSM/STE/FR/GS/16.057).

To optimize ship time, these trials were performed in a zone of scientific interest and following the ground tracks of the JASON2 and Saral-Altika satellites.
