Objective Acquisition of a sea-surface scalar marine magnetic anomaly profile in the corridor between the Tasman and Balleny Fracture Zones, to (1) constrain the opening between Tasmania and Antarctica and precisely date the beginning of the circum-Antarctic oceanic circulation; (2) evaluate the duration and amplitude of a possible motion between East and west Antarctica after 35 Ma; and (3) refine the Macquarie Plate kinematics for the last 6 million years.
