| Objective | Seasonal and inter-annual monitoring of the heat content, surface salinity, hydrology and circulation between Tasmania and Adelie Land. The programme began in 1992. The dates of crossings between Hobart and Dumont D'Urville for the XBT shooting cruises were as follows (5 rotations): - R0 from 22/10/2016 to 21/11/2016 - R1 from 15/12/2016 to 04/01/2017 - R2 from 07/01/2017 to 28/01/2017 - R3 from 31/01/2017 to 22/02/2017 - R4 from 23/02/2017 to 07/03/2017. The related projects are CLIVAR and TOSCA. Data go to ORE-SSS and LEGOS. SURVOSTRAL provides a large number of Southern Ocean observations for global climatology and analyzing ocean variability. SURVOSTRAL observations are also assimilated into operational ocean models in real time in France (MERCATOR), Australia, Germany and the USA. |
