Objective

The VOLT project aimed to instrument the Capbreton Canyon at various locations, in order to measure currents and qualify turbidite activity in intensity and frequency. The collaboration with RTE aims to provide elements to improve the perception of turbidite activity in the canyon for an evaluation of the potential consequences of this natural activity for RTE's underwater works project (laying of a high-voltage submarine cable linking the northern Spanish coasts to the western French coasts).

This cruise aimed to better appraise the sources of inflow to the canyon linked to turbidity events. The Capbreton canyon head was mapped, and this mapping should be repeated during the next surveys to measure the bathymetric differentials between successive surveys. This will make it possible to highlight morphological changes (zones of accretion or erosion and the related volumes).
