Objective Characterization of the sedimentation during the Messinian event and of the refilling of the Mediterranean basin; estimation of the volumes of sediment (eroded and deposited) involved in the salinity crisis, near the western Sardinian margin, between the abyssal evaporites at the foot of the slope and the point of maximum transgression marked by the upper evaporites on the continental slope. Obtaining additional spatial data to supplement the profiles taken during the SARD85 cruise. This falls under the CNRS national program called ECLIPSE (for Environment and Climate of the past: - history and evolution) Project name: the Messinian salinity crisis: terms, regional and global consequences and quantifications" - Financed in 2001 - Coordinators: SUC Jean-Pierre, DR CNRS, and ROUCHY Jean-Marie, DR CNRS.
