Objective Verifying geographic limits of the composition of communities and those of the dominant populations in the eastern sector of the bay of Seine. Species' distributions were to be compared with those obtained in previous winter cruises in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1991, and 1996. This cruise could thus assess the stability or the variability of community composition over a period greater than a decade. Winter distribution maps could also be established for the two target species. These species were part of a population genetics study in a complementary research project (analysis of polymorphism using allozymes and microsatellites in the Channel at the metapopulation scale). Analyzing fine-scale spatial structure of adult populations of Owenia fusiformis and Pectinaria doreni in order to evaluate the impact of biogenic structures (polychaete tubes) on previous recruitment. This study was also to provide objective criteria for experiments on the influence of Owenia fusiformis tubes (in terms of their spatial heterogeneity) on the recruitment of Pectinaria koreni. This cruise fell under the National Coastal environment program (PNEC) theme-based research action 2 (ART 2) on population dynamics: hydrodynamic structures and biological cycles.
