Objective

In the framework of the RIVERCOLOR (TOSCA CNES) project, the Color-Campaigns LEG2 mission is vital for several reasons: It is part of the effort to validate inverse methods of quantification of the biogeochemical parameters typical of estuarine environments. It contributes to improving knowledge about turbidity maximum and plume dynamics; to validating the hydrosedimentary model for the river upstream; to assessing particulate fluxes leaving the estuary; It will enable better characterization of the heterogeneity of Gironde estuary water quality, especially the spatial-temporal variability of dissolved organic matter and different types of mineral and organic particles; Finally, it is essential for launching a particularly innovative and ambitious theme on the assimilation of ocean colour data into the SIAM sedimentary transport model. Finally, it complements the Color-Campaigns LEG1 mission performed during a flood of the river, this time by analyzing a low water level situation.

Main results
