Objective | NURSE 2014 aims to collect data to help monitor and understand the functioning of coastal nurseries in autumn. They are essential habitats which play a determining role in the recruitment of juveniles in several fish species. The Nurse 2014 study zone corresponds to the northern Bay of Biscay and focuses on two of the main nurseries in this area: the bay of Bourgneuf and the bay of Vilaine. Sampling efforts are particularly focused on the bay of Vilaine nursery, since it has been the object of almost annual fisheries cruises since 1981. Nurse 2014 proposes that sampling of benthic and demersal fish and invertebrate populations (both commercial and non-commercial species) be continued in order to develop quality indicators for nursery habitats and status indicators for coastal populations for the MSFD. This falls under the SIH project. |
