Objectif La campagne Madeep s'insère dans le programme d'exploration Tropical Deep Sea Benthos. Compléter les connaissances de la biodiversité benthique profonde de la zone Papouasie - Nouvelle Guinée notamment en explorant la zone Sud Est Mer des Salomons jusqu'aux Archipels Louisiade et Woodlark). Poursuivre les travaux sur les organismes associés aux environnements chimiosynthétiques (bois coulés, suintements froids). Ces travaux concernent la biodiversité et la biologie des organismes associés à ces environnements mais également leur origine évolutive et la biologie des populations. Observer ces environnements (bois coulés, suintements froids) par utilisation du Scampi sur deux sites d'intérêts (Astrolabe Bay, Broken Bay au large de la Sepik) découverts lors de précédentes campagnes (Biopapua, Madang). Poursuivre les travaux sur le rôle de la dispersion et de la fragmentation de l'habitat dans l'endémisme géographique et écologique en milieu marin profond (Monts sous-marins).
