Objective | Studying the transfer of nitrogen from atmospheric nitrogen fixation in the marine food web and the impact on carbon export. The study zone was a set position located at the outflow of the lagoon of Noumea (Passe de Boulari), where three 55m3 mesocosms were deployed for experiments in them. We wanted RV Alis to be moored near these chambers, to made maintenance operations on the sensors moored there and the phase of sampling daily or several times a day within the mesocosms (4h/day) both fast and easy. The coordinates of the study zone where the mesocosms were moored were: -Tabou reef: 22°28.870 S - 166°26.700 E. Site is protected from waves, sandy bottom, no coral flagstone under sand, close to pass and ocean waters, frequent occurrences of Trichodesmium blooms, low concentrations in nitrates; Depth of installations: 24 m; Number of moorings: 4 (attached by ropes on subsurface buoys (3 m) then on 3 mesocosms, 15m high and 2.5m in diameter); Method used for installation and burial: screw anchors(4). |
