Objective	An ecosystem-based approach to sustainable management of fisheries resources. Constructing time-series of abundance indexes for the main commercial species in the North Sea and Eastern English Channel. (Assessment of main commercial fish stocks). Larval index calculated for herring and sprat. Characterization of winter spawning zones and habitats in the North Sea. Study of benthic invertebrate assemblages based on observations obtained using bottom trawl. Studying hydrological, phytoplankton and zooplankton compartments. Recording of acoustic data to improve the calculation of abundance indexes. Observation of seabirds and marine mammals. The related project is the International Bottom Trawl Survey - Assessments of fisheries under EU management and non-EU management.

Summary of measurements

-Samples taken using GOV wide opening vertical trawl: calculating abundance indexes for commercial species.
-Acoustic prospecting: logging data from ER60 and ME70.
-Sampling of larvae: calculation of larval abundance indexes for herring and sprat using MIK larva net. Stations performed at night.
-Egg sampling: Characterization of winter spawning zones and habitats in the North Sea. Sampling using CUFES (Continuous Fish Eggs Sampler).
-Sampling of zooplankton and phytoplankton: Studying hydrological, phytoplankton and zooplankton compartments.
-Observation of seabirds and marine mammals in the English Channel.
-Characterization of seabed and benthic species; underwater videos.
