Objective | The long-term objective of the BENTHOCLIM project is, based on the sampling strategy by Cabioch and colleagues, to sample at least 220 stations distributed over three legs going from the Iroise Sea to the central English Channel and crossing the boundaries of distribution of many species. The first mission set out to sample along a south leg in the Western Channel. This involved acquiring new data on the distribution of macrofauna in the region and, on the basis of historical data, judging how distribution boundaries for some of them have evolved in response to the rising temperature of seawater. Only a few zoological groups which are easily identified and sorted on board, for which distribution boundaries have been clearly established in the past were considered, i.e. molluscs, echinoderms and decapod crustaceans. The related project is AT PNEC BENTHOCLIM. |
