Objective | The OWEN-2 Cruise aimed at complementing the study of the active Arabia-India plate boundary using seismic reflection. The main objective was to image the sub-surface deformation down to basement by conducting a detailed mapping of seafloor faults scarps combined with seismic imagery across several pull-apart basins calibrated with drillings and cores obtained previously. To reach these objectives, we acquired continuous multibeam bathymetric data, measured the magnetic fields, and run sub-bottom and seismic reflection profiles across the Owen Fracture Zone and the Owen Basin from the Arabian continental margin to the distal Indus fan. Altogether, the active India-Arabia boundary and associated pull-apart basins have been recognized from surface to sub-surface for more than 800 km, on-board the BHO Beautemps-Beaupré French Navy ship, which was the only ship operating in these waters due to the recent strong piracy hazards. |
