Objectif Mieux contraindre la variabilité de la réserve d'eau chaude du Pacifique Ouest (Warm Pool) au cours des derniers cycles climatiques ; Étudier l'évolution des transferts de chaleur de l'équateur vers les moyennes et hautes latitudes via les principaux courants de l'Ouest Pacifique (Kuroshio) ; Contraindre l'évolution de l'échange de chaleur et de sel entre l'Océan Pacifique et l'Océan Indien via l'Archipel Indonésien lors des changements glacio-eustatiques ; Analyser l'action de l'ensemble des facteurs cites précédemment sur l'évolution de la mousson asiatique ; Étudier la formation et les variations des eaux intermédiaires profondes dans l'ouest Pacifique et dans les mers marginales (Mer du Japon, Mer de Sulu, Mer de Chine du sud, Mer d'Okhotsk) en réponse aux changements climatiques globaux de la circulation océanique et du climat. Les sites de carottages viennent Compléter les séries sédimentaires recueillies lors des campagnes IMAGES III (97), IMAGES IV (98) et lors du récent leg ODP 184. La zone de la campagne est Océan Indien est équatorial, Archipel Indonésien, Mer d'Halmahera, Pacifique sud-ouest, mer du Japon, mer de Sulu, mer de Chine méridionale, mer de Chine orientale, Pacifique nord-ouest, mer d'Okhotsk.
