Objective	Impact of climate change on benthos and marine habitats in the Kerguelen islands. Setting up a baseline for ecological and genetic monitoring, protection and conservation. IPEV programme No 1044. PROTEKER is a pilot programme (installation of a coastal sea floor observatory) which will be the basis for future studies or studies underway, of national, European or international scope. While searching and choosing sites, advantage was taken to collect organisms for programmes currently under way: Collecting of Abatus cordatus, Mytilus edulis and other invertebrates. The dates of days at sea were: from 20/12/2011 to 23/12/2011 - Gulf of Morbihan; from 25/12/2011 to 29/12/2011 - North Kerguelen, Choiseul and Baleiniers sectors; from 31/12/2011 to 05/01/2012 - South Kerguelen, Bay of Audierne and Bay of Swains sector.

Summary of measurements

-18 dives performed to select the sites for ecological and genetic monitoring of a seabed observatory at Kerguelen.
-6 sites were chosen (2 per station selected, at depths of 5m and 15m). 8 were equipped with a thermo-recorder and 4 were prepared (at 5m).
-The thermo-loggers were programmed to start recording on 6 January 2012 at intervals of one measurement per hour. The manufacturer gives their recording capacity as 4 years.
-Morbihan bay: Ile Haute: 15 m and 5 m depth and Ile Longue: 15 m and 5 m / Choiseul sector: Port Chrismas: 15 m.
-Baleiniers sector: Ilot des Trois Bergers (Port Couvreux): 15 m and Audierne sector: Fjord des Portes Noires: 15 m and Iles du Prince de Monaco: 15 m.
-Samples (mostly quadra) were pre-sorted, fixed and wrapped for identification.
-Collecting and studying Abatus cordatus, Mytilus edulis, Mytilus edulis, Latternula elliptica, Yoldia eightsi, Neobuccinum eatoni, Abatus cordatus and Odontaster validus.
-A species check list has been started in the form of a database, compliant with current (WORMS and ERMS) nomenclature, which will contain photos of live species in their environment.
