Objective Seasonal and inter-annual monitoring of the heat content, surface salinity, hydrology and circulation between Tasmania and Adelie Land. The programme began in 1992. The dates of crossings between Hobart and Dumont D'Urville for the XBT shooting cruises were as follows (3 rotations): -R0 from 22/10/2011 to 11/12/2011 -R1 from 15/12/2011 to 04/01/2012 -R4 from 19/02/2012 to 07/03/2012 The related projects are CLIVAR and TOSCA. Data go to ORE-SSS and LEGOS. SURVOSTRAL provides a large number of Southern Ocean observations for global climatology and analyzing ocean variability. SURVOSTRAL observations are also assimilated into operational ocean models in real time in France (MERCATOR), Australia, Germany and the USA.
