Objective | The general focus of the ERODER cruise, acronym for erosion and dismantling of the volcanic edifice of Reunion Island, is to study volcanic edifice dismantling processes, the roles respectively played by flank destabilizations and erosion, as well as the transport dynamics of matter on the flanks of the volcanic edifice reaching to the abyssal plain. It is part of a Land-Sea approach. ERODER 4 is the ERODER project's fourth cruise. This cruise was devoted to taking core samples (sediment) and dredge samples (rock formations). The targets are located on the flanks of the Reunion edifice, on the surrounding oceanic plate and on a set of seamounts located approximately 120 nautical miles west-south-west of Reunion Island. During these operations, 3.5 kHz sub-bottom profiler and gravimetry data were also acquired. The magnetometer was deployed during long transit legs. The cruise was related to the ERODER project. |
