Objective | Redeploying a hydroacoustic observatory to monitor the seismicity associated with ocean expansion along the three ridges in the Indian Ocean and the deformation of the central Indian basin, as well as the presence and migration of large whales in the Southern Indian Ocean. The observatory will be made up of 9 autonomous hydrophones located on 5 sites; 2 antennas of 3 hydrophones 30 km apart were installed on 2 of the sites (N-CRO and W-KER). The array was deployed in 2009/2010 during the VT109-MD174 missions (Dec-Jan 2010) and VT112-MD175 (Feb. 2010). Due to an emergency medical evacuation, only 7 of the 9 moorings could be retrieved and redeployed (see attached map). There were two parts to the mission: from 14/01/2011 to 16/02/2011 and from 17/02/2011 to 20/02/2011. This cruise took place during the MD 185 / SOUTH INDIAN survey. |
