Objective | A central objective of the EXBODI cruise was to supplement the sampling conducted by our teams around New Caledonia, in particular to document the effective spread of the distribution of organisms from New Caledonia and to understand the way they are dispersed. These studies aim to better understand the processes behind the diversity and wealth of fauna on seamounts which are potential targets for the definition of marine protected areas in New Caledonia. Extending the sampling done towards Vanuatu, where geomorphologic facies similar to those seen in New Caledonia can be found, would enable the hypotheses in literature about the factors determining distribution of organisms on New Caledonian seamounts to be verified. The cruise is related to the Tropical Deep-Sea Benthos programme. |
