Objective	Assessing anchovy and sardine biomasses in the Bay of Biscay using acoustics and associated pelagic trawl hauls. Characterization of habitats' hydro-biological environment. Acquiring data in the PELGAS configuration with the multibeam fisheries echosounder (SMFH). Acquiring acoustic target indicators and video recordings of small pelagic fish. The cruise was conducted in the framework of Theme 4 ¿ "Fisheries resources, sustainable fishing and commercial utilization" and the programs on Information systems, observation techniques, economics and diagnosis for fishing and changes in resources and their use and Ecosystem approach for integrated management of fisheries resources.

Summary of measurements

-Acoustic exploration (acquisition and storage of signals on 5 frequencies) for the distribution and abundance of pelagic fish species, mainly anchovies and sardines.
-Pelagic trawl catches to identify target species and characterize resources (size distributions, demographics, biological characteristics).
-Egg counts using surface pumping with the CUFES system to determining spawning zones.
-Catching plankton to characterize the biotic environment of small pelagic fish populations (biochemical indices descriptors of zooplankton dynamics).
-CBT stations and continuous observation to describe hydrological conditions by associating available satellite photos and circulation modelling results following the 3D model developed by P. Lazure.
-Characterizing the diversity and abundance of micro zooplankton as well as other plankton compartments in order to evaluate the structure of the plankton food web.
-Identification and visual counts of cetaceans and birds present in the area to describe higher predators in the pelagic ecosystem of the Bay of Biscay.
-Density column used to study vertical migration of eggs in the water column.
-Utilization of the towed vehicle for trawl observation (EROC) to acquire acoustic target indicators and videos of small pelagic fish and bubbles.
-Supervision and coordination of 2 professional vessels (during the first 22 days) which were fishing and taking samples on the same network as RV Thalassa to the benefit of the cruise.
