Objective Characterizing the abiotic environment in the lagoon surrounding the town of Suva at the beginning of the hot season. Characterization of physical chemical distribution in the lagoon's waters. Determining the distribution of particulate and dissolved matter concentrations. Determining the distribution of radionuclides (210Pb/210P, 234Th/238U) in particulate matter, zooplankton, and zooplankton fecal pellets, on a coast-to-offshore transect in order to specify the respective importance of geochemical and biological pathways of particulate transfer. The related program was the IRD Camelia Research Unit. Comments on the cruise's progression: CTD profiles and water samples were taken at a set of 54 stations (Fig. 1) to analyze physical-chemical characteristics (dissolved and particulate nutrients, chloropigments). Additional samples were taken at 21 out of 54 stations to analyze dissolved metals (S01, S03, S05, S06, S10, S12, S17, S19, S21, S24, S26, S28, S29, S34, S36, S38, S42, S52, S54, S55, S57). In situ pumping operations: one in the lagoon (S26) and two outside the lagoon (S29). Two plankton samples were taken outside of the lagoon on a transect running from S06 to S29.
