Objective | The REMORA1 cruise aimed to make it possible to estimate in 2001 the inventory of different markers (natural and artificial radionuclides, etc.) in marine sediments located in areas under the influence of the Rhône River. The results were to be compared with those obtained in 1990-91. The core samples were to refine previous studies on sedimentary accumulation, radionuclide speciation and seasonal variations (pollen) in this zone. The core samples were also to help better understand the effects of the October 1993-January 1994 centenary floods on those parameters. A study on current speeds that re-suspend sediment in this region was to be carried out in a flume located at the COM in Marseilles (determination of the critical erosion and sedimentation thresholds, calculation of erosion as a function of hydrodynamic forcing, etc.). It is planned that this study should eventually provide a basis for the construction of a model of sedimentation in this region. This cruise was associated with the PNEC and REMOTRANS projects. |
