Objective Reactivity of metallic contaminants associated with particles and microorganisms in the Adour river plume and downstream estuary. Analysis and exploitation of data collected during the METADOUR 2 cruise were incomplete and must be further pursued in order to better understand the reactivity of metallic contaminants in the Adour estuary and determine which factors control these processes. Therefore the cruise objective is to continue these investigations and more particularly to acquire new data during a period of high primary production. The cruise specifically aims to answer the following questions: -What is the vertical dispersion of particles associated with the Adour plume? -What is the nature, distribution and abundance of metallic pollutants within the plume? -What biogeochemical processes control the reactivity of these contaminants in the water column? -What are the interactions between mercury species transformation and microorganisms? -What are the metal phase exchanges between labile, non-labile and particulate fractions? This cruise carries on from the studies undertaken on the Adour estuary as well as in framework of a regional project filed in 2006 (RESEAU DE RECHERCHE LITTORAL AQUITAIN) on the quality of coastal areas in the Aquitaine region and in Spanish Basque country: Contaminants fluxes and shore line evolution. This cruise also supplements studies currently being conducted in the Adour estuary by the different laboratories involved (LCABIE, LASAGEC, LEM): the ANR MINAMETA (2007-2010) and IDEA (2009-2011) projects. Positions of stations: 1 (mouth) N 43 31,61 - W001 30,05 / 2 (mouth) N43 31,79 - W001 32,32 / 3 (50m depth) N43 31,69 - W001 36,76 / 4 (100m depth): N43 31,94 - W001 41,78 / 5 (benchmark outside of plume) N43 35,40 - W001 46,71.
