Objective Studies of the functioning of the detrital-based and chemosynthesis-based ecosystems that co-occur on the continental margin; study of the community structure of both types of ecosystems in relation to energy flow; study of the the links between the two types of ecosystems. Study of the influence of input from the Zaire River on temporal variation of carbon flow, hydrodynamics and chemical parameters of the environment. Study of the response of benthic populations to these variations. Experimental approach developed as part of impact studies conducted on drilling in the continental margin.
