Objective | Each PIRATA cruise lasts about two weeks. During these cruises, ATLAS systems were deployed and/or recovered (after one year), CTD measurements were taken along transects (0-1,000m), continuous underway current measurements (ADCP) and surface temperature and salinity using TSG were carried out. The incorporation of PIRATA data in numerical ocean-atmosphere circulation models were to allow us to better understand and simulate seasonal and interannual climatological variations in the tropical Atlantic. This model and its simulations were to advance our progress in making medium-term climate predictions over the whole region, namely concerning the precipitation regimes of the Nordeste and West African zones. |
