Objectif Le thème central d'étude du Programme POMME est l'étude de l'influence de la moyenne échelle sur la formation des eaux de la thermocline principale dans l'Atlantique Nord Est. Cette étude porte autant sur les caractéristiques physiques que sur les propriétés chimiques et biologiques des masses d'eau, qui une fois formées, échappent à l'influence de l'atmosphère pour plusieurs années, voir dizaines d'années.
