Objective | The objective of NURSE 2010 was to collect data in order to monitor and understand how nurseries function, since these habitats are vital for recruitment of juveniles of several species important to fisheries. There are three parts to this objective: - Sampling benthic and demersal populations (both commercial and non-commercial species) in order to develop quality indicators for nursery habitats and status indicators for coastal populations. - Monitoring of the fish nursery in the Bay of Vilaine to study hydrological forcing, benthos-fish coupling and the trophic structure determining the dependence of fished species with respect to the various habitats in this nursery. -Sampling the epibenthic and demersal fauna in order to determine the role played by the Haploops (amphipod crustacean) consolidated mud facies in ecology and fisheries. The cruise mainly falls under the AMPHORE action in the POPEX project of Ifremer's P6 programme called Ecosystem-based approach in fisheries. At the same time, the cruise will contribute to other complementary projects: Estuarine and coastal habitats and Haploops in the programme P5-Coastal ecosystems: dynamics, trends, monitoring by Ifremer. |
