Objective The OVIDE project's objective is the observation of water mass circulation in the North Atlantic sub-polar eddy and determining low frequency fluctuations in the meridian circulation cell, heat fluxes and tracer transport towards the Northern part of the North Atlantic and characteristics of water masses. To meet this aim, a section was made between Portugal and Greenland made up of 110 stations for hydrography, geochemistry and Doppler current measurements. The hydrological section was performed every two years over a ten year period in order to resolve all the relevant scales of ocean variability. The OVIDE 2010 cruise is the fifth and last run made for the project on this section.
