| Objective | This cruise is one in the series of EXACHA-SMFXX technological cruises to upgrade and optimize RV Thalassa's acoustic platform, which should enable the tools and observation methods used in the frame of the sustainability and dynamics of fished populations project to be improved. Specifically, the objectives were to replace or update some of the platform's systems to lengthen their useful life, analyze and correct residual artefacts observed on the Simrad ME70 echosounder in 2008 and 2009 and to acquire acoustics data to supplement the acquisitions performed regularly on resource assessment cruises. During the cruise, measurements of RV Thalassa's radiated noise were made and compared to benchmark measurements made when the vessel was built. Technological trials on a new winch used with the VMP microstructure profiler will also be conducted by Ifremer's LPO lab to prepare for its use on the INDOMIX cruise aboard RV Marion Dufresne.
