Objective Extreme environments: Strategies of colonization and adaptation in hydrothermal environment (MESCAL). Biology of organisms which are dependent on deep sea hydrothermal vents. Two themes: strategies of colonization and adaptation by Alvinella pompejana to thermal and chemical stress, and the integrated biology of thiotrophic endosymbioses (Riftia, Bathymodiolus and Calyptogena). The related programmes are: GDR ECCHIS, ANR DEEP-OASES and ANR BALIST.
