Objectif

Prismed II avait deux objectifs majeurs:

  • L'analyse de la déformation actuelle et récente de la Ride Méditerranéenne, vaste édifice tectono-sédimentaire entre le sud de la Crête et là bordure de l'Afrique résultant de la collision commençante entre ces deux domaines ;
  • La reconnaissance de détail d'une grande partie du delta profond du Nil et en particulier de processus sédimentaires contrôlant son édification au cours du Plio-Quaternaire.

Cette mission s'est fondée sur la réalisation de cartographie à 100% (bathymétrie et imagerie acoustique par réflectivité) de boîtes de grandes dimensions, l'une entre le sud de la Crête et la marge de la Libye, une autre entre le SE de la Crête et le delta du Nil, enfin deux zones au NW et S de l'île de Chypre.
