Objective | The ESTIME (French acronym for marine instrument and equipment technological tests) cruise aimed to validate various equipment and/or marine instruments in the final phase of development through trials at sea. For most of the equipment, these tests are an indispensable and vital step in the development process and enable the transfer phase towards scientific and operational teams to be launched. The following equipment and facilities were to be tested: 50 kN version of the PENFELD penetrometer, instrumented rod-planting version of the PENFELD penetrometer, solid- and hydrocarbon-detecting RAMSES spectrometer, methane- and sulphate-detecting RAMSES spectrometer, new generation CHEMINI pumps to detect iron, BOB station for bubble detection, ALP² module to retrieve instruments with no variation in mass, IPEV corer on RV Pourquoi pas ?, the 36-meter coring equipment on RV Pourquoi pas ?, new electronic core of autonomous seabed stations, the measure of oxygen concentrations on the Antares SJB site. Trials involving the RAMSES spectrometer and BOB bubble detector were to prepare the MARSITE mission following the ESTIME mission. The related projects are EMSO, FIXO3, Carnot PENFELD and MARSITE. |
